The World Stage Performance Gallery

The World Stage Performance Gallery is an educational and performance art space located in Leimert Park Village, the heart of Los Angeles' African American cultural community. Founded in 1989 by legendary jazz drummer Billy Higgins and poet Kamau Daáood, The World Stage has become a pivotal institution for nurturing and promoting African American music, literature, and oral traditions. Through weekly workshops and regular performances, the gallery provides a platform for artists of all ages to develop their skills and share their talents with a diverse audience.

With a mission to secure, preserve, and advance African American cultural heritage, The World Stage offers a range of affordable workshops, from drum circles to jazz sessions, ensuring that art education is accessible to all. In addition to the workshops, the gallery hosts live music and literary events on Friday and Saturday evenings, drawing both local and international talent. The supportive atmosphere at The World Stage has fostered many successful alumni, including acclaimed musical groups, bestselling authors, and Pulitzer Prize nominees, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of creativity and cultural exchange in Los Angeles.
